                                               What is the SAT

The SAT (Scholastic Aptitude Test) is an entrance exam used by a significant number of colleges and universities to make admissions decisions.

                                                           Essential SAT Facts

  1. The SAT exams are administered seven times a year between January and December.

  2. The total score for an SAT exam ranges from 400 to 1600 points.

  3. There is no limit to the number of times students can take the SAT exams. Many students achieve a higher score on their second attempt.

  4. Students can request to have their exam returned to them to review their mistakes and learn from them.

  5. The SAT typically begins with easier sections before progressing to harder ones.

  6. Timing yourself during practice exams is beneficial, as it helps you gauge how long it takes to complete the exam and manage your time accordingly.

  7. For every correct answer, you receive 1 point. Incorrect answers result in a 1/4 point deduction.

  8. Enter the SAT exam with confidence and try to stay relaxed throughout the test.

  9. The grammar section contributes approximately 70% of your score, while the essay section accounts for about 30%.

  10. Taking practice tests in one sitting while timing yourself can help alleviate some pressure during the actual exam.

  11. Studying the math and English packets will give you a significant advantage on the test.

  12. There is no guessing penalty. In the past, the SAT exams deducted points for guessing an answer, but this is no longer the case.

  13. Aim to complete each question within a minute, as you have 80 minutes to finish 58 questions in the math section.

  14. Some tests are reused from the seven tests administered yearly. Four of these tests are published so that everyone can access them. Some questions may be reused in different tests.

  15. Taking both the ACT and SAT is a smart decision, as most colleges accept both scores. This allows you to submit the highest score you achieve.

  16. Eligible students can also apply for SAT accommodations with the College Board. Accommodations must be approved before a student registers for the SAT.SAT Changes 2024-2025
